Scraps vs. Panels....Who Will be the Winner?
Fabric scraps and pre-printed panels have been like a boxing match to me! Picture this: "in this corner we have our champion: the fabric scraps!" And across the ring: "in this corner we have the challenger: the fabric panel." The two contenders take their spots, they come together and it becomes a back and forth challenge. And in the end my scraps were the declared winner! But, recently a new contender entered the ring with new skills.
This new contender was introduced to me through https://www.quiltersb.com/current-classes by Carole Thelen. In her own right, Carole is a known quilter with a plethora of Youtube instructional videos. Through QuiltersB Carole facilitated a Zoom class on using her Quilt Calculators with EQ8. What I soon learned was that this was where my champions abound! Yet one had the moves and punches that dazzled me; it was (drum roll....) none other than the Panel Calculator!
This calculator begins with the measurement of the panel. Then, with a few other dimensions, the calculator adds borders and blocks that build each and every panel into a full quilt. The on-line written directions made it a pretty simple training round. I got ready for my first match in no time.
The first match wasn't stellar by any means. Mistakes and ways to improve were noted. And the winner is: 
Maybe....just maybe it was a tie!
