Scraps Take on the Panel!
When I saw this panel, I knew it had to be mine....plus the price was right! My little quilt shop, Nunkle Nandy's had the coordinating prints, picked and purchased I headed home to plan!
What I didn't plan on was the fact that the panel was skewed, not square! Hmm.....Google search for the win! My favorite Fabric Cafe videos popped up and there it was: Fran addressing my issue! I gathered my supplies and went to work. Twenty-four hours later my panel was square!
On to Carole Thelen's Quiltnotes and the Panel Calculator . Carole thought of everything, including a video to walk me through planning my quilt! Take a peek and see by clicking on the picture:
Following her directions I ended up with a a page and a half of border sizes, numbers of blocks horizontally and vertically....basically a written layout of the quilt with the panel featured in the middle. And I didn't have to do the math! However, I still saw a challenge....and I would accept it in EQ 8.
I wanted to see the quilt. So, I proceeded to set up the quilt using the measurements from the Panel Calculator. A single block center with borders would suffice nicely! The first set of borders were calculated to be "fitting borders" allowing easier calculations of blocks / block numbers. In my quilt the vertical and the horizontal were not the same width. Not a problem in EQ8! Then on to the fun part, adding another border to represent the blocks. I added the border and then selected the correct style, adjusting the horizontal number and the vertical number to what the Panel Calculator recommended. Here is my final line drawing from EQ8 based upon the Quiltnotes calculator:
Ready to go? Not yet!!!!! I chose to adapt the block border to a different style! And it was the best evening's entertainment I've had! What do you think? Can you find the adaptations?
I think I'm ready for NonnasScraps to take on this panel! Until next time!
Jeannie
