And the Winner is???????

The challenge was real! The set up in EQ8 went smoothly (see my last post). And I was quilt happy with the results.

What the EQ8 rendering looked like!

But, the actual cutting was a bit on the tricky side, despite the EQ8 instructions! I started with the striped blocks. Piece of cake to strip piece, but the actual sub-cuts of the blocks threw me! Every single one was too large! Still not sure what I did in the beginning, but the recut fixed it!

The stars....Accuquilt cubes made them so very easy! I chose to use shapes 2, 5 and 7 from the 8" Cube, so I had to adapt my EQ8 blocks. No problem! The actual block is detailed in the AQ guides as "Clay's Choice" but in different colors. Here's where my updated EQ8 color renderings saved me!

I selected the Star block. Note: I actually have two styles (the border stars and the corners stars). But for illustration purposes, this is one of the border stars. By selecting the star and rotary cutting. I was able to get a color picture and a detailed line art of where the different color shapes are placed. The A, B, C refers to the shapes.

It also detailed the number of shapes to cut in each color for EACH block. Using the #2 die,  this block required  3 blue, 2 White  and 3 red.
Each block was "disected" in the same way.

But, I don't just have one block in the entire quilt! I have 8 blocks that are exactly alike. With a little basic math, I can get the total amount of shapes to cut. Each individual number will be multiplied by 8 to give me the number needed. I needed 24 blue, 16 white and 24 red. Yardage? Topic for another day......but I bet QuiltNotes can help with that!

This panel quilt was an exciting match for my EQ8 and my QuiltNotes. And I absolutely love this quilt! Now to frame, quilt and gift  for my hubby's birthday!

Keep sorting those scraps and generating those gems!
